How We Work

From Enquiry to Sign-Off

Every lift plan follows a structured process built around LOLER 1998 and BS 7121 — so the operation is signed off right, first time.

  1. 01

    Enquiry & Scope

You tell us the load, the equipment, the site and the timescale. We confirm what level of planning the operation needs — from a generic schedule to a fully detailed written plan.

  2. 02

    Site & Load Assessment

We work through load weights, centres of gravity, ground bearing conditions, and radius and capacity against the manufacturer's load charts, plus overhead and site-specific hazards.

  3. 03

    Lift Plan Produced

You receive a complete, LOLER-compliant written lift plan: method statement, risk assessment, rigging arrangement, exclusion zones and a clear sequence of operations.

  4. 04

    Independent Check & Sign-Off

Every plan is checked against BS 7121 and LOLER by a CPCS Appointed Person and issued ready for sign-off — so it's accepted on site without delay.

Common Questions

Lift planning FAQs

What is a LOLER compliant lift plan?

A LOLER compliant lift plan is a documented safe system of work for carrying out a lifting operation, as required by the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. It includes risk assessment, method statement, load calculations, equipment selection, and site layout drawings.

When do I need an Appointed Person for lifting operations?

Under LOLER and BS 7121, an Appointed Person should plan lifts where there is risk of equipment or load striking a person, specialist knowledge is needed, mobile cranes are used, tandem lifts are required, or lifts occur near power lines.

How long does it take to produce a lift plan?

Standard lift plans for excavators and telehandlers can be delivered within 24-48 hours. Mobile crane lift plans requiring site visits may take 3-5 working days.

How much does a lift plan cost?

Excavator and telehandler lift plans start at £200 + VAT. Lorry loader and HIAB plans start at £250 + VAT. Mobile crane, tandem and complex lifts are quoted individually on a fixed-price basis, so there are no hourly surprises. We publish our prices, which most providers in this market do not.

Do I need my own Appointed Person if I hire a crane on CPA terms?

Yes. Under a CPA crane hire agreement the crane company supplies the crane and operator only — planning the lifting operation, including appointing a competent Appointed Person, remains your responsibility as the hirer. Under a contract lift the crane company takes that duty on instead. If you are hiring on CPA terms and have no A61 holder available, an external Appointed Person covers the gap.

Can you produce a lift plan at short notice?

Often, yes. Standard plans are turned around in 24-48 hours as a matter of course, and same-day work is accommodated where the information is available and the lift is not exceptionally complex. Call 07803 808093 rather than emailing if the lift is imminent.

Do you check lift plans written by someone else?

Yes. Independent lift plan checking is a service in its own right — a CPCS A61 Appointed Person reviews the plan against LOLER 1998 and BS 7121, confirms the lift category, and returns written findings you can paste straight into your response to the reviewer. This is commonly used by principal contractors reviewing subcontractor submissions.

Do you work outside the North West?

Yes — plans are produced remotely and delivered UK-wide, from Cornwall to the Scottish central belt. Site visits are same-day within about 90 minutes of Warrington, which covers Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and the wider North West. Further afield, visits are scheduled around your critical lifts rather than offered same-day.
